What you need to do before we arrive

We’ll be there as soon as we possibly can, but there are a few things you can do before we arrive to give your home or business the best chance of recovering.

1. Turn off the electricity

Our first concern is for your safety. Water is an excellent conductor of electricity, which is bad news for you and anyone else on a flooded carpet.

Electrical currents running through the water can easily cause electrocution to you or others who touch or step onto wet surfaces, causing injury or death.

Before you do anything else, make sure you turn off the electricity at the metre box, especially if you have water in the walls.

2. Remove all furniture from the room

If the water has flooded from below, there may still be a chance of saving furniture if you act quickly.

Where possible, move all furniture from the water damaged room into a dry space – either another room in your house or even outside in a covered area.

Even if the furniture has been damaged by water – for example if the water damage is a result of a storm and/or leaking roof – make sure you remove it from the flooded carpet to avoid further damage.

3. Call your insurance company

Now that you’ve taken steps to secure your safety and further water damage to your flooded carpet in your Brisbane property, it’s time to call your insurance company.

Let your insurance company know what has happened – that you have flood damage, and the extent of it as far as you can tell – and whether it’s because of a storm, rising river levels or something as simple as a faulty dishwasher or washing machine.

Also be sure to let them know that you have water damage professionals – SafeClean! – on their way to help with the clean up.

How we dry flooded carpets

You won’t need to worry about the details – rest assured that at SafeClean we have 30 years of experience in restoring water damage carpets in Brisbane.

However, it can help to understand the process that we’ll go through to fix your flooded carpet. From removing excess water to re-laying the carpet, it can take some time to get it right.

Here’s what you can expect from our service

Step 1: Extract all water from your carpets

Whether you’re knee-deep in water or the water level has subsided to just a few centimetres, it’s important to get the excess water out of there before we can begin to rejuvenate your flooded carpet.

We use the latest in water retrieval equipment, including specialist truck-mounted water extraction machines, to pump the flooded water out.

Step 2: Lift the carpet and remove the wet underlay

Even if the flooded carpet itself seems dry, remember that any well-laid carpet has a nice, springy underlay… which is unfortunately very good at absorbing waters!

Step 3: Install dryers or dehumidifiers to dry the carpet or walls

Now comes the heavy duty drying stage. We’ll install dryers and/or dehumidifiers to make sure every last drop of moisture is gone from your flooded carpet.

We know from experience that you just can’t leave these jobs half done!

Step 4: Call back to see how the drying process is going

At the same time as we install the dryers and/or dehumidifiers, we’ll talk to you about booking a return visit to see how the drying process is going.

Depending on the size of the area of water damage and how badly flooded the carpet was, this drying process can take some time to complete properly.

Step 5: Re-lay and clean the carpet

Once we’ve got your water damaged carpet, and the underlay, completely dry, we’ll re-lay it for you!

It’s all included in our full-service package for restoring flooded carpets in Brisbane. Best of all, once it’s securely re-laid, we’ll professionally clean the whole carpet for you!

This gives you the best chance of restoring your flooded carpet to its original condition.

Step 6: Apply an antimicrobial treatment to the damp carpet

The last thing you want is to have your carpet festering with mould in the long term. It stinks, it looks bad and it can be detrimental to your health.

To help prevent this and to keep your carpet in a sanitary condition, we apply a specially formulated antimicrobial treatment to your water damaged carpet.
