Please Note: This method is if you have just spilt red wine and it has not dried. You will need a spoon, paper towels, water and a heavy large book. If you have a machine that can extract the red wine then that would work a lot better then paper towels.
Step 1. Dab the stain immediately
Use a steel spoon to remove red wine immediately working from the outside in or use your machine to extract. Then use paper towels and blot pressing down firmly, repeat repeat. It will soak up as much of the wine as possible. Avoid scrubbing, as this can damage the carpet fibers!
Step 2. Add water to dilute the red wine stain.
Generously pour water onto the red wine stain. Do not worry about using to much water. This will break down the red dyes from the carpet fibers.

Once you have removed as much water/red wine from your carpet simply place 5-8 paper towels onto the stain, place a heavy book and leave over night. You will be amazed how effective this procedure is in removing red wine stains.
